What the Prez Says

DrDave What The Prez Sez – December 2009

Charity Begins at Home

Around this time of year, there is often a lot of talk about charitable giving and helping those less fortunate than ourselves.  In reality, regardless of what month it is, a charitable mind is never a bad thing, and from where I stand, it seems to me that we in our community tend to be more charity-minded than the average American.  Equally important, however, is a need to be charitable to ourselves as well.
To paraphrase Rupaul, “If you are not going to look out for yourself, how the hell you gonna look out for someone else?”

So this month, and in the coming months ahead, I would like to challenge everyone to be charitable to yourself by giving yourself the gift of networking…wha????  The plan is simple, stay with me.  Remember the whole point of networking is to build positive relationships with others to increase the likelihood that when they need a product or service that you provide, they will think of you first.  Using the following steps is easy and takes very little extra time:

1) This month, tell at least three (3) people about another MBA business member and encourage those people to support MBA member businesses.

2) Tell at least three people about the business directory located on our website at http://www.mbaorlando.org/ and encourage them to go there first when looking for a product or service.

3) Tell at least three non-MBA members about the MBA.  Encourage them to join the association and invite them to the next monthly MBA networking event.

4) Call (yes, use the phone in the old-fashioned way!) any body that you’ve made a referral to and let them know that you have referred someone to them and wish them business success.
You can see how this can be a highly effectively marketing plan as you very easily build relationships with other association members, build bridges amongst our members, strengthen our local economy, and strengthen our community.

As we market each other, we market ourselves.

Don’t forget to let me know how it works out for you!

With Pride,
Dr. Dave
